Sphene
Sphene, from the Greek “sphenos” meaning wedge to describe its crystal formations, also goes by the name titanite. This gem has a rich variety of colors that includes yellow, green, orange, brown, pink, red, and even black. It displays powerful trichroism, meaning it can show up to three colors at once depending on the angle at which it is viewed as well as the light temperature, and has a fire that exceeds a diamond! Sphenes are generally more affordable than peridot, making them an alternative for the August birthstone or 16th wedding anniversary gift. It is believed that sphenes aid the wearer in processing information, debating, theorizing, and studying, as well as promoting spiritual enlightenment and improving all aspects of the mind.
